Ethical Policy
At the Handmade Christmas co, sustainability is at the heart of all that we do. Beyond creating beautiful quality personalised products, we also work to ensure that the production of our products is as ethical as possible. We are conscious of our environmental footprint, and take every measure we can to reduce this throughout the production of all of our range. Every effort goes into ensuring our products don’t just look their best, but are also made in the best way possible. From the early stages of sourcing our raw materials, through to the craftsmanship throughout production, and the methods used to finish each product, we strive to do our best in every step.

Raw Materials
The first steps of producing our products rely on sourcing the best materials – paying close attention to both quality and supply chain.
We’re proud to use sustainable materials wherever we can across our entire range. Our Christmas sacks are made from authentic natural hessian, originating from the Jute plant that is native to India. Jute is 100% biodegradable and environmentally friendly, whilst also supporting traditional farming industries in the Kolkata region. Beyond the raw material, we ensure the dying and printing processes use only azo free dyes and inks, printed by hand, and are also Oeko-tex standard 100 certified.
Our Christmas Eve boxes are hand made from FSC certified wood provided from sustainable sources, as are our wooden tree decorations. Our personalised baubles and ornaments are made from glass and metal, both fully recyclable and recognised as non harmful to the environment. Our gift wrap and Christmas crackers are all made from fully recyclable papers, and avoid the use of any forms of plastics including in the outer packaging. Finally, our Christmas hampers are carefully hand woven from wicker – a sustainable and natural material.

Production Processes
Fair working conditions are our utmost priority when selecting our manufacturing partners. Our key partners are fair trade registered factories, and all manufacturing partners are individually assessed to ensure the highest working standards are adhered to. We only work with factories who have up to date inspection reports from professional inspection agencies and have demonstrated their commitment to staff welfare. We make regular visits and/or employ local agents to conduct regular inspections and training sessions to ensure the most up to date standards are followed throughout all production partners facilities.
As well as the working conditions, we are also passionate to support traditional production methods throughout all of our product range. Working with skilled tradesmen and artisans, prioritising the use of handmade methods to not only deliver a unique character to every piece produced, but also to protect age-old skills. Avoiding mass market production means no two products from our collection are identical, adding a true depth and story to each individual piece.
