Our Story

Founded in 2012, The Handmade Christmas Co. was established to offer a modern alternative to the traditional Christmas stocking. Five years later, and after reaching more than 100,000 customers around the world, The Handmade Christmas Co. is now the go-to location for personalised Christmas sacks, stockings, baubles, gift wrap and so much more.

The result of years of development by creative duo Louis Porter and Tom Coleman, The Handmade Christmas Co. produces seasonal goods here in the UK, with all products being hand-finished in a London-based studio.

The Handmade Christmas Co. publicly launched in 2014 with its first collection.

In 2015, its ‘Great British Heritage‘ collection expanded to include eight additional designs, each named after distinguished Englishmen from the Elizabethan period. 2016 saw further success, with new product lines, new markets and more customers.

2017’s Lovingly British Handmade Collection is set to go further. Personalised baubles and wrap are new additions to this year’s collection, accompanied by more sacks and stocking designs than ever before.

The Handmade Christmas Co. is set to help tens of thousands of people give more than just a gift this Christmas, in the UK, United States, Europe and beyond.

Lovingly Handmade

True to the name, our philosophy is to add a handmade touch to Christmas.

Each of our uniquely designed products starts life as a sketch, before being developed into concept designs. From these designs, a shortlist of our favourites is created. This shortlist then goes through months of refinements, with our talented team of designers working hard to produce the very best Christmas illustrations to suit every taste.

Our Christmas sacks and stockings are made using the finest woven hessian and securely stitched with matching natural thread originating from the jute plan, resulting in a quality, durable finish. These sacks are then screen printed with our bespoke designs, before being hand-finished with personalisation unique to each of our customers.

This process is much the same with our personalised baubles and gift wrap, all of which are lovingly finished by our close-knit London team.

Our History

The Handmade Christmas Co. was founded in 2012 by creative duo, Tom Coleman & Louis Porter, to design a premium alternative to the traditional Christmas stocking.

Following two years of development, the company publicly launched in 2014 with a single personalised Christmas sack design, and a plan to shake up the industry once and for all.

2015

We worked hard throughout this year, building our core team and working with each of our manufacturers to ensure we had a product of the highest quality – a product we were proud to call our own.

In 2015, a new brand image and website was introduced, welcomed by the launch of the ‘Great British Heritage‘ collection – expanding the sack range to include eight additional designs, each named after distinguished Englishmen from the Elizabethan period.

This was also the year we formed relationships with major partners in both the USA and Australia, planting the seeds for our international expansion.

2016

2016 saw the launch of the ‘Festively British’ collection, with the introduction of an additional five new sack designs across the personalised and non-personalised collections, as well as the expansion into a small range of complimenting Christmas products.

It also marked the start of our high-street expansion, launching partnerships with British retailers, John Lewis and Debenhams. With a selection of our products stocked in every store location as well as online, plus two pop up locations in John Lewis (Oxford Street) and Peter Jones (Sloane Square) offering ‘while you wait’ sack personalisation from September through till December.

2017

2017 has been the most ambitious year yet for the brand. Behind the scenes, we were excited to relocate to our new, 3000 square foot premises in South London – larger than our previous studio, and far more accommodating to the array of new equipment and production systems we’ve recently invested heavily in. We also invested further into our international expansion, opening an office in Orlando, Florida (USA) to better serve our US customers.

To complement our new physical location, we also launched our new website to greatly improve our customer experience, assist in upgrades to our back-end systems, and to cater for the introduction of our new product ranges – personalised baubles and personalised gift wrap.

On the High Street, we continued to grow our existing partnerships, rolling out our permanent Christmas pop up locations to nine John Lewis stores throughout the UK, and grow the offering on their website. We were also very excited to announce our collaboration with some additional British department stores, including House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer and Fenwicks, as well as the world famous Hamleys Toy Store (Regent St, London). With 48 physical locations throughout the UK, from Edinburgh at the top, down to Southampton at the bottom, and plenty in between – we’ve worked hard to ensure our loyal customer base can pick up their personalised products from a location near them, as well as via our website.
